Review: Island Red Cafe, Ipoh

Review: Island Red Cafe, Ipoh

Benny, Vivian and I went to Island Red Café along with a non-forum friend for lunch. I didn’t know it was a franchise until earlier. We wanted to try since it’s quite newly opened in Ipoh for few weeks only if not mistaken. Island Red Café in Ipoh is located in Greentown, a white small bungalow building right beside the road completed with its own parking area for the customers.

Though first impression when we reached is that we couldn’t find the entrance! Only to find it located at the very side of the bungalow, a white mini gate-like entrance. Reaching at around 12pm, the café is still not ready for business as the person-in-charge is still running around trying to get the café ready for business. We wonder how is it possible for a café to be not ready for business even though it is already lunch hour.

After a while only we were able to be seated inside but when we were ready to order, it seems to be so difficult to get hold of any waiter. They seem to see us waving around but no one walk over to take our order. Finally we made our order, the food came and… somehow each and every one of us seems to have our own complain for our dishes.

For instance, Benny’s Spaghetti Seafood tasted like ‘char siew’ sauce even with chicken bits according to what he claimed. While I tried Vivian’s Island Red Claypot Porridge to find it tasteless even after adding quite some soy sauce and pepper. While my New Zealand Lamb Chop with Mint sauce was served with a knife that couldn’t cut through the meat itself. It taste okay but everything else has spoiled the mood. Our drinks seem to be okay with not much complaint. While lucky friend has no complaint at all for his Nissin Noodle with Sausage and Egg, guess he made the correct order after all.

If that’s not bad enough, when we were trying to ask the staff to have our table clear, again, we can’t get hold of anyone even though two of them saw us waving for them. When we managed to get hold of someone, it took forever to clean our table. We ended up leaving the place to go to elsewhere to have our meeting instead.

Honestly, it’s definitely not a pleasant experience and we doubt we will go back there after this. It was such a turn off and it’s such a shame to actually know that it’s a franchise and yet they are not exactly up to the standard.
