Movie: Fast 5

You'll be surprised that I have only managed to catch this movie few days ago after it's been on screen for quite a while. Especially when I am such a big fan of movies with pretty and fast cars especially all the Fast and Furious movies.

So finally I watched Fast 5 with my friend.

Initially, a few people wanted to watch with me. Way before the movie was out, I was basically booked for at least two to three rounds of Fast 5 with different people. And then when the movie was out, everyone disappeared. Literally. I don't know where they have gone off to but some are just plain busy. Hence it explained why I am such a snail this time around.

I bet this movie needs no more introduction. Who doesn't know about Fast 5 especially when it's the fifth movie of the Fast and Furious movies. Now to those rare cases who has yet to watch the movie, here's the trailer.

More often than not, most action movie trailers are more interesting than the movie itself. Where you would be so attracted to and interested to watch the movie only to find out all the interesting part has been shown in the trailer and there's nothing left in the movie other than the filler and not so interesting parts.

But surprisingly this is not the case for Fast 5. Fast 5 trailer was so and so, showed some insight but not everything leaving something for you to figure out only when you are in the cinema watching the movie. Or... was I the one who did not watch the trailer before the movie hence I have such point of view?

Honestly, I actually don't remember if I watch the trailer before the movie or not. If my memory served me right, when I was watching the trailer just now while looking for it... I think I did not. So just maybe, my opinion can be ignored regarding the trailer. lol

Now here's the plot. It's nice to read the plot again though I have watch the movie. As usual, spoiler ahead.

When Dominic "Dom" Toretto (Vin Diesel) is being transported to a US prison by bus, his sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) and friend Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) lead an assault on the bus, causing it to crash; freeing Dom. While authorities search for them, the trio escape to Rio de Janeiro. Awaiting Dom's arrival, Mia and Brian join their friend Vince (Matt Schulze) and other participants on a job to steal three cars from a train. The job goes awry when Brian and Mia discover the train is carrying DEA agents and that the cars are seized property. When Dom arrives with the rest of the participants, he realizes that one of them, Zizi (Michael Irby), is only interested in stealing one car; the Ford GT40. Dom has Mia steal the car herself while Dom and Brian fight Zizi and his henchmen, with Zizi killing the DEA agents assigned to the vehicles. Dom and Brian are captured and brought to crime lord – and owner of the cars – Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), Zizi's boss where he orders the pair be interrogated to discover the location of the car. However they manage to escape and retreat to their safehouse.

While Brian, Dom and Mia examine the car to discover its importance, Vince arrives and is revealed to be working for Reyes when he removes a computer chip from the car. Dom forces Vince to leave and after investigating the chip, Brian discovers it contains details of Reyes' criminal empire including the locations of $100 million in cash. Following the murder of the DEA agents aboard the train, blamed on Dom and his team, U.S. DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and his team arrive in Rio to capture Dom and Brian. They travel to Dom's safehouse with assistance from local officer Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky), but find it under assault by Reyes' men. Brian, Dom and Mia escape with Dom suggesting they split up and leave Rio, but after Mia announces she is pregnant with Brian's child, Dom instead suggests they steal Reyes' money to start a new life. The trio organize a team to perform the heist, recruiting Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), Gisele Harabo (Gal Gadot), Tego Leo (Tego Calderón) and Rico Santos (Don Omar). Vince later joins the team after saving Mia from being captured by Reyes' men, earning Dom's trust once more.

Hobbs and his team eventually find and arrest Dom, Mia, Brian and Vince. While transporting them to an airport for extradition to the United States, the convoy is attacked by Reyes' men, killing Hobbs' team and Vince. Hobbs is saved by Dom, Brian and Mia as they fight back against Reyes' men and escape. Wanting revenge for his murdered team, Hobbs and Elena agree to help with the heist. The gang breaks into the police station where Reyes' money is kept and tear the vault from the building using their cars, dragging it through the city with police in pursuit. Believing they cannot outrun the police, Dom makes Brian continue on without him while he attacks the police and the pursuing Reyes; using the vault attached to his car to smash their vehicles. Brian returns to kill Zizi, while Reyes is badly injured by Dom's assault. Hobbs arrives on the scene and executes Reyes. Hobbs refuses to let the pair go free, but unwilling to arrest him, agrees to give them a 24-hour head start to escape. The gang split Reyes' money, with Dom leaving Vince's share to his family, and they go their separate ways.

In the South Pacific, Brian and now visibly pregnant Mia relax on a beach, where they are met by Dom and Elena. Brian challenges Dom to a final, no-stakes race to prove who is the better driver.
In a post-credits scene, Hobbs is given a special file by U.S. Customs agent Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes) concerning the hijack of a military convoy in Berlin. In the file, Hobbs discovers a recent photo of Leticia Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Dom's presumed-deceased girlfriend, revealing she survived the events of Fast & Furious.

I am actually glad that the movie is kind of pack with action scenes but I also think that racing scenes are barely enough. If my memory serve me right, comparing all the Fast and Furious movies, I would say that the movies have grown from packed up with action and racing scenes to priority of storyline and action instead.

Also the fact that, when this such great movies, yet I can barely find a great photos of the movie. All photos that can be found in the internet is either boring or just plain uninteresting. Of which I wonder why because with so many great scenes in the movie, isn't it supposed to have more great photos circulating in the internet instead?

Movie setting is in Rio. The previous movie that I blogged about was also set in Rio in which the movie title is Rio, too. I am actually kind of surprised that it would be set in Rio considering the building structures there are so unique that it is barely suitable for such action car racing movie.

All in all, I guess what I crave for from this movie that I did not manage to get is racing scenes. I know there's a few racing scenes but I guess it wasn't the one that I was expecting or looking forward to. However, the racing scene where Dom, Brian, Han and Roman race using the police cars are one of the funniest scene in the movie.

Other than that, of course a racing movie shouldn't be not having hot chicks in the set. And as usual, Mia and Gisele from previous Fast and Furious movies are in. But there's a new lady in the movie which is Elena who works for Hobbs. Elena is acted by Elsa Pataky and in my opinion she's quite hot.

Though I wouldn't deny that Gal Gadot who acted as Gisele could be the hottest among all the girls in the movie. But at times she just appear overly skinny in the movie. Not that I don't like skinny girls, but at times just a little over skinny. Still, my friend has been drooling nonstop since Gal Gadot first scene in the movie till the end especially the part where she's in a bikini.

While before I forgot, the soundtrack in the movie is awesome! One of the song is by Don Omar, Danza Kuduro. One of the most catching song in the movie I would say.

Now what I did not expect was... at the end of the credits when everyone thought there isn't anything else behind, poof come a short video. Which clearly indicates that it's gonna be another Fast and Furious movie in the future.

My first reaction? OMFGWTF?! Isn't five Fast and Furious movies enough? And now they want to have the sixth? I guess no matter how much I love Fast and Furious movies, I really thought that five movies is enough.

But obviously, I am wrong. So now we just gotta wait for the sixth Fast and Furious movie where Letty is supposed to be awakened from her grave. I mean, she did not die from Fast and Furious the forth movie but survived it instead.

Aaahh... what a great movie. But... more hot cars please?
